Former Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit passed away in Delhi on Saturday. ​

She was 81, the end came following a cardiac arrest.  The Fortis Escorts Hospital authorities said she was brought in a critical condition with a cardiac arrest.

Dikshit is survived by her son Sandeep Dikshit and her daughter Latika Syed.

Sheila Dikshit was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, served for 15 years from 1998.  She was three-time Delhi Chief Minister, she also served as the Governor of Kerala between 1998 to 2013.

“It is a great loss for the country and Congress party.  Delhi has lost an outstanding leader and administrator who transformed the state beyond recognition.  Country will remember her contribution towards the transformation of Delhi for a long time.”

Arvind Kejriwal – Delhi Chief Minister 

The arch-rival of Shiela Dikshit in politics tweeted his condolences to the bereaved family members of Sheila.  “Just now got to know about the extremely terrible news about the passing away of Mrs. Sheila Dikshit ji. It is a huge loss for Delhi and her contribution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace.”

Rahul Gandhi – Congress Leader

I’m devastated to hear about the passing away of Shiela Dikshit Ji, a beloved daughter of the Congress Party, with whom I shared a close personal bond. My condolences to her family & the citizens of Delhi, whom she served selflessly as a 3 term CM, in this time of great grief.
